NBA free agency: Paul Millsap agrees to 2-year deal with Hawks

After seven strong seasons with the Jazz, Millsap heads to Atlanta to fill the shoes of Josh Smith, who appears on his way out the door.

USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks have reached a two-year deal with free agent forward Paul Millsap for $19 million, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

Millsap, 28, has been one of the league's most consistent power forwards during his first seven years in the league, all of which were spent with the Jazz. He averaged 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds last season, starting all 78 games he appeared in. Since becoming at least a semi-regular starter in 2008, Millsap has averaged 14.6 points and 7.7 rebounds a night. At 6'8 and 255 pounds, he's earned a reputation of begin a banger in the paint on both ends of the floor.

Millsap heads to a Hawks team in need of a power forward following the likely departure of Josh Smith via free agency. He joins a solid core of young players in Atlanta, led by Al Horford and Jeff Teague. The Hawks earned a six-seed in the playoffs this past season and were eliminated by the Pacers.

Earlier in the week, the Hawks reached a four-year deal worth $24 million to keep sharp-shooter Kyle Korver in town.
