NBA free agency: Francisco Garcia will sign 2-year deal with Rockets, according to report

The Rockets began filling the holes around Dwight Howard by agreeing to a deal with Francisco Garcia.

Christian Petersen

The Houston Rockets agreed to a two-year deal with Francisco Garcia, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports. The second year of the $2.6 million contract will be a player option so Garcia can opt out after the 2013-14 season when he will have Bird Rights.

Garcia was traded to Houston in the middle of last season, but the Rockets waived him before free agency to make room for Dwight Howard. Now that they signed Howard, they can fill in the gaps around him and Garcia will help fill one of the holes.

The shooting guard averaged 6.4 points in 18 games with the Rockets last season, but he played very well in the playoffs. He averaged 10.7 points in Houston's first-round series against Oklahoma City and defended Kevin Durant well.

With Howard in the fold, the Rockets need shooters to space the floor for their big man and Garcia will do just that. He shot 38.6 percent from beyond the arc with Houston in the regular season and 45.9 percent in the postseason.
