DeMarre Carroll should be useful bench piece for Atlanta Hawks

You probably didn't know that the Utah Jazz outscored opponents by 5.4 points per 100 possessions with DeMarre Carroll in the game and were outscored by 3.1 points per 100 possessions when he sat. It was only in 1,111 minutes, to be fair, but it wasn't too hard to spot how Carroll's aggression helped the Jazz last season. Why he only played 1,111 minutes while Marvin Williams played 1,727, I'll never know.

That's why I liked the Hawks' decision to give Carroll a two-year, $5 million contract. Atlanta's backup wing options last year were Dahntay Jones and Anthony Tolliver. Carroll is already better than both of them and is still relatively young. Now that he's freed from the weird politics that caused Ty Corbin's odd frontcourt rotations in Utah, he should be able to show why he's the kind of guy that coaches enjoy having on their bench.
