NBA Summer League 2013: Victor Oladipo hopes to build off strong debut

Previewing the second day of Orlando Summer League action, where the Magic’s Victor Oladipo looks to put forth another strong effort. Michael Carter-Williams and Kelly Olynyk also had strong debuts on Sunday and will be in action again on Monday.

USA TODAY Sports

Day 2 of the Orlando Summer League kicks off at 11 a.m. ET on Monday, with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Orlando Magic squaring off in the first of four games. Let's take a look at the four contests.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Orlando Magic, 11 a.m.

No. 2 overall pick Victor Oladipo will look to build off his strong debut performance for the Magic when they take on the Thunder. Oladipo had 18 points, seven assists and five steals in a 95-88 victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday. Oladipo did shoot just 5-of-13 and had six turnovers, but overall, it was a solid effort.

The Magic also got an excellent performance from Romero Osby, the No. 51 pick in the drat. Osby tallied 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting while grabbing five rebounds off the bench.

The Thunder also secured a victory on Sunday, defeating the Indiana Pacers, 76-68. No. 40 pick Grant Jerrett was impressive, notching 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Daniel Orton added 15 points, while Jeremy Lamb had 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting. No. 12 pick Steven Adams had just two points, but his athleticism was on full display and he played good defense.

Philadelphia 76ers at Indiana Pacers, 1 p.m.

Both the Sixers and Pacers hope to bounce back after losses on Sunday. Philadelphia lost, 88-80, to the Houston Rockets, although there was a lot to like about the performance of No. 11 pick Michael Carter-Williams. The Syracuse product had 26 points and eight assists in the victory, although he did shoot just 8-of-23 and had nine turnovers.

Indiana struggled in its loss to Oklahoma City, shooting just 40.7 percent overall and 4-of-18 from three-point range. Orlando Johnson was the only Pacer to reach double figures in scoring with 17 points, but he shot just 4-of-13 from the field. No. 23 pick Solomon Hill had nine points on 3-of-3 shooting.

Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons, 3 p.m.

Andre Drummond filled the stat sheet in Detroit's 76-67 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Drummond had 12 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks, five steals and seven turnovers in the win.

Things didn’t go nearly as well for No. 9 pick Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The rookie shot just 1-of-10 from the field and went 0-of-8 from three in his debut. No. 37 pick Tony Mitchell fared a bit better, scoring seven points and grabbing six rebounds while shooting 3-of-3.

Boston got an excellent performance from first-round draft pick Kelly Olynyk in its loss to the Magic. Olynyk, the No. 13 pick in the draft, had 25 points and seven rebounds against Orlando. The big man's offensive versatility was on display as he went 9-of-12 from the field.

Brooklyn Nets at Miami Heat, 5 p.m.

Jason Kidd made his coaching debut with the Nets, picking up a technical foul in the loss to Detroit. On the court, No. 22 pick Mason Plumlee was impressive, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Tyshawn Taylor had 17 points to lead Brooklyn.

For the two-time defending champion Heat, No. 50 pick James Ennis had 11 points on 2-of-7 shooting in a 69-59 loss to the Utah Jazz. Miami's best performance came from the undrafted Ian Clark, who had 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 3-of-4 from three.
