NBA free agency 2013: Jermaine O’Neal reportedly will sign with Warriors

The 17-year vet will take his talents to Golden State next season.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors got their latest free agent commitment Tuesday as big man Jermaine O'Neal agreed to a deal with the team, ESPN's Marc Stein reports. The one-year deal isn't a big commitment to the prep-to-pro big man, but a healthy O'Neal could be another nice addition to the revamped Warriors roster.

Golden State's biggest offseason addition has been Andre Iguodala after trading away three players to clear enough cap space for a run at Dwight Howard. It didn't pan out, obviously, but O'Neal is another solid addition to a young team that played well until its unfortunate demise in the NBA Playoffs.

It'll be interesting to see how much O'Neal can still offer Golden State considering he turns 35 this season. The 17-year NBA veteran showed last season with the Phoenix Suns that he's still got a little bit left in the tank, but the Suns' training staff is well-known for its ability to keep players healthier than anywhere else.

The Warriors likely won't count on O'Neal to contribute too much next season as they've also added Marreese Speights in the front court. The former perennial All-Star is likely hoping to show he can get solid minutes, though, to prove he can still play at a high level in the NBA. Whether his body allows him to do so, however, might be a different story.
