Strange details emerge from Craig Ehlo’s arrest

The former NBA guard reportedly set a pile of clothes on fire in his garage before being restrained by two family members.

USA TODAY Sports

Craig Ehlo was arrested and charged with a felony count of first-degree reckless burning and a separate charge of domestic violence early Thursday morning at his home in Spokane County. Few details were made available in the hours following the arrest as he was booked into a local jail.

According to a report from the Spokesman-Review, Ehlo was involved in an altercation with various family members around 7 a.m. Thursday morning. When fire crews arrived, they discovered a burning pile of clothes in the garage. Two family members were holding down Ehlo. The same family members told the police that they were holding down the former NBA guard because they thought he was going to jump onto the fire.

The same report indicated that Ehlo and his wife had gotten into an argument the night before.

Ehlo resigned as an assistant coach at Eastern Washington in July. He spent 14 years in the NBA with the Rockets, Cavaliers, Hawks and Sonics. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while primarily coming off the bench.
