The Philadelphia 76ers have zeroed in on San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown to be their next head coach, and they have been working over the last few days to come to an agreement. However, associates close to Brown have urged him not to take over the rebuilding Sixers, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Spurs assistant Brett Brown has an offer on the table to become the Sixers’ next head coach, but close associates are urging him not to take the job because the team is destined to lose 60-plus games next season.

The Sixers have set themselves up to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season in order to have one of the best opportunities to land Andrew Wiggins, the consensus No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. If Philadelphia wins the Wiggins sweepstakes, a young core of Wiggins and Nerlens Noel has a lot of promise.
However, Brown may not want to deal with a 60-plus loss season, and he could pass on the Sixers job if he feels he can land a better gig elsewhere in the near future. That's never a guarantee, although considering Brown is from the Gregg Popovich coaching tree, it seems likely he would garner interest from other teams.
If Brown does decline the coaching offer, Stein says the Sixers are prepared to have Michael Curry coach for a year as a fallback plan. Curry has been the associate head coach in Philadelphia for three seasons.
