Knicks, Nets working to jointly host 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend, according to report

The 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend will likely take place in New York, but it could be split between the Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden.

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are working together with the NBA to jointly host All-Star Weekend in 2015, according to Tim Bontemps of the New York Post.

The 2015 All-Star Weekend will almost certainly take place in New York, but the biggest question is which stadium will host the actual game. Having it at the Nets’ new Barclays center would make a ton of sense, but Madison Square Garden will be newly renovated, which would make that an appealing option as well.

NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver says there’s progress being made in making this joint All-Star Weekend a reality (via the Post report):

“There is progress in that the teams are working together ... recognizing that it’s in both of their interests to create a basketball festival-type atmosphere around All-Star in New York, and so things are going well,” NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver said this week.

Bontemps believes the most likely compromise is one arena hosting the Saturday night events, while the other hosts the All-Star Game on Sunday night. The NBA also has to figure out where to hold its Jam Session.

The last time All-Star Weekend was held in the New York metropolitan area was 1998 at Madison Square Garden.
