NBA free agency: Rockets a possible destination for Stephen Jackson, according to report

The Spurs released Stephen Jackson last season and the veteran is still looking for a new job. He may not have to go far to find it, though, because the Rockets are reportedly a possible landing spot for Jackson.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Veteran free agent Stephen Jackson has been working out this summer with the hope of joining a contender. The Houston Rockets are a possible destination, apparently, according to HoopsWorld's Alex Kennedy.

The San Antonio Spurs released Jackson toward the end of last regular season due to some ongoing issues between the 35-year-old and head coach Gregg Popovich. Jackson was upset with his lack of playing time, and he was let go after lashing out at Popovich following a discussion over the veteran's role on the team.

Jackson appeared in 55 games for the Spurs last season, averaging 6.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game. He shot 37.3 percent overall and just 27.1 percent from three-point land, though, which helps explain why he saw his playing time cut.

Joining the Rockets would seem like a bit of a revenge move for Jackson. Not only do the Spurs and Rockets play in the same state, but Houston should be a major challenger to San Antonio at the top of the Western Conference thanks to the addition of Dwight Howard.
