FIBA Africa schedule 2013: Central African Republic, Mozambique tip off tournament

The 2013 FIBA Africa Championship begins on Tuesday in the Ivory Coast. The top three from the tournament will qualify for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

The 2013 FIBA Africa Championship gets underway Tuesday morning in the Ivory Coast, with Central African Republic taking on Mozambique in the first of four games on the docket.

In game two, Egypt will face Senegal. Diehard NBA fans should recognize Senegal’s Saer Sene, who bombed out of the league after being drafted 10th overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2006.

Host country Ivory Coast will play in the third game of the day against Algeria. Ivory Coast was supposed to be the host of the 2011 FIBA Africa Championship, but Madagascar was chosen instead because political unrest in the Ivory Coast delayed the preparation for the arenas.

Also in action on Tuesday is Angola, who finished second in the 2011 tournament to Tunisia. Angola will play Cape Verde in the fourth and final game of the day.

This will be the 27th FIBA Africa tournament. The top three qualify for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Here’s the full schedule for Tuesday’s games (all times Eastern):

Central African Republic vs. Mozambique, Group C, 8:30 a.m.

Egypt vs. Senegal, Group A, 11 a.m.

Ivory Coast vs. Algeria, Group A, 1:30 p.m.

Angola vs. Cape Verde, Group C, 4 p.m
