The 2013 FIBA Africa Championship tournament will chug into Friday's games with more seeding on the line. Wins and losses don't exactly matter during the round-robin portion of the event considering all 16 teams are guaranteed a spot in next week's knockout round, but teams would obviously prefer an easy path to a top-three finish -- and therefore a spot in next year's FIBA World Cup tournament.
FIBA Africa schedule 2013: Blowouts likely to be abundant in Friday’s action
Round-robin play at the FIBA Africa Championship will continue Friday with a slate featuring Wednesday’s winners versus that day’s losers.
Friday’s action will be the second set of seeding games for teams in Groups B and D, but unfortunately doesn’t offer a lot of competitive pairings. All of Wednesday’s losers are playing that day’s winners and, unfortunately, that could mean a few blowouts are in the making.
The game to watch, if one wants to watch Afrobasket action on Friday afternoon, will be Nigeria taking on the Republic of Congo. Nigeria features four players with NBA experience (Ike Diogu, Al-Farouq Aminu, Ben Uzoh and Gani Lawal) and pulled out a 15-point victory over Mali in their first game of the tournament. The Congolese team doesn't have any NBA talent to match Nigeria, but they can't possibly look as poor as they did in their 74-43 loss to Cameroon on Wednesday.
Plus Nigeria’s just a fun team to watch.
Friday’s entire Afrobasket schedule is included below, converted to Eastern Time for your convenience:
8:30 a.m. - Morocco (0-1) vs. Rwanda (1-0)
11 a.m. - Burkina Faso (0-1) vs. Tunisia (1-0)
1:30 p.m. - Republic of Congo (0-1) vs. Nigeria (1-0)
4 p.m. - Mali (0-1) vs. Cameroon (1-0)
The round-robin portion for these teams will finish up on Sunday before Monday’s knockout round begins. Saturday’s games will once again features Groups A and C battling it out for the final time.
