The Minnesota Timberwolves have hired Washington Wizards vice president of player personnel Milt Newton to be the team's general manager, according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500 in Minnesota. The Wolves also plan on promoting Rob Babcock to a vice president of player personnel position.
Timberwolves to hire Wizards’ Milt Newton as GM, according to report
Newton will have a large hand in scouting under Wolves president Flip Saunders.

Both Newton and Babcock have history with Wolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders, who took over as president this offseason after the team failed to exercise the option on David Kahn’s contract. The buck will still stop with Saunders on all personnel decisions, but Newton and Babcock will both reportedly have a lot of input on those moves.
Newton joined the Wizards in 2003, and he had a large hand in their scouting efforts. Newton will bring that expertise to Minnesota, where he will be relied heavily upon in that area.
Newton will also be joined in Minnesota by Koichi Sato, an assistant trainer for Washington.
