Delaware 87ers D-League expansion draft results

The Philadelphia 76ers D-League affiliate drafted 16 players to its roster.

The Philadelphia 76ers' newly minted D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers, released the results of its expansion draft Thursday night. The 87ers drafted 16 players to fill out their inaugural season roster, two of whom are currently under contract with NBA teams.

The rules of the expansion draft are as follows: Each D-League team can “protect” the rights to 12 players from their roster, leaving the remaining players to be entered into the draft pool for selection. The drafting expansion team then selects a maximum of two players from a single team until 16 players have been chosen.

Josh Akognon, who played with the Dallas Mavericks last season, is one of the two NBA players on the roster. The Canton Charge owned the rights to Akognon, but he was recently signed by the Memphis Grizzlies after a breakout Summer League performance. He'll be playing for Delaware unless he's wanted in Memphis.

Ish Smith, who was traded to the Phoenix Suns by the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the recent trade for Caron Butler, is the other player currently under NBA contract acquired by the Sevens (the official nickname of the 87ers).

Here’s a full list of the players the Sevens drafted:
