76ers coaching search reaches second round of interviews

Will the Sixers simply enter next season without a coach?

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia 76ers are the lone remaining team without a head coach, but at least they've finally hit the second round of candidate interviews. Four different assistant coaches are scheduled to meet with managing partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer this week to discuss the opening, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Looking to replace Doug Collins, six coaches are still in the mix to be hired. Chicago's Adrian Griffin, Atlanta's Kenny Atkinson, San Antonio's Brett Brown and Boston's Jay Larranaga will meet with management this week, while Wojnarowski adds Portland's David Vanterpool and Sixers assistant Michael Curry as other possibilities.

With the franchise undergoing a major rebuilding project, GM Sam Hinkie has been highly deliberate in his process for tabbing a new coach. One imagines he’ll have to hire someone soon to begin working with the team’s young roster prior to next season. Or maybe we’ll just be at Round 14 of interviews by October.
