The Philadelphia 76ers have offered their head coaching position to San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown, reports Adrian Wojnarwoski of Yahoo! Sports. The sides are still in negotiations regarding length and value of the contract.

The Sixers have selected their pick for next head coach but have yet to come to an agreement with San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown.

The Sixers were expected to sort through their second-round of interviews with candidates. Coaches from around the league that were in the mix for the job included Kenny Atkinson, Michael Curry, Adrian Griffin, Jay Larranaga, David Vanterpool and Brown.

Brown was the director of player development for the Spurs from 2002-2006 and was then promoted to assistant coach under Gregg Popovich. Brown would be the second assistant coach from the Spurs to land a head coaching job this summer with Mike Budenholzer accepting a position with the Atlanta Hawks.
Curry, Collins’ lead assistant coach with the team, was considered a strong candidate for the position as well.
Not much is known about the direction of the team under the guidance of new general manager Sam Hinkie, but Thaddeus Young revealed in an interview with Dei Lynam of Comcast SporsNet that the front office had already decided on a style of play prior to selecting a coach:
“My understanding is we want to be a running team that is going to put up a lot of shots and try and get out in transition and do many different things with the basketball,” Young said. “So I have really been working on my ball-handling and my shooting.”
