Rajon Rondo is eight months removed from surgery that repaired a partial tear of his right ACL but don't expect him, or the Boston Celtics, to set a formal return date. ESPN's Chris Forsberg reports that won't happen, and first-year coach Brad Stevens told his All-Star point guard to return whenever he feels comfortable.
Rajon Rondo injury: Celtics guard has no timetable for return
Neither Rondo nor his team are willing to set a timetable for a return from a January ACL tear.
Rondo tore his ACL in a Jan. 25 game against the Atlanta Hawks and even played on it for a few minutes in that outing. That weekend before a game against the Miami Heat, the point guard was sent to a local hospital for an MRI.
What was originally thought to be a hyperextension turned out to be much worse. On Feb. 12, Rondo underwent a procedure done by Dr. James Andrews.
Despite Boston trading away Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce this offseason, it appears the team is welcoming Rondo as part of the rebuilding process. It's also apparent Rondo is accepting the challenges ahead. Forsberg reports Rondo spent the last week working out with some of his teammates and Stevens said the guard is "excited" for what lies ahead in the future.
