Paul George, Pacers agree to 5-year maximum contract extension, according to report

The 23-year-old will be the Pacers’ “Designated Player.”

Paul George is finalizing a five-year, $90-plus million maximum contract extension with the Indiana Pacers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports. George is expected to sign the deal this week.

George said last week that he expected to get a deal done before the start of the upcoming season. With this new max contract, the 23-year-old will be the Pacers’ one “Designated Player.”

George earned the max deal with his excellent 2012-13 season, as he led the Pacers just one game away from the NBA Finals. George made his first All-Star team, averaging 17.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

George stepped his game up even more in the postseason, going toe-to-toe with LeBron James for much of the Eastern Conference Finals. George averaged 19.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists in the playoffs.

Indiana has been busy this offseason, re-signing David West and making several key additions to their bench in addition to now locking up George. With Danny Granger returning from a knee injury, the Pacers are set up for another excellent campaign.
