Jrue Holiday injury: Pelicans guard out indefinitely with stress fracture in leg

Holiday’s injury is a big blow to the Pelicans, although it should open up more playing time for Tyreke Evans.

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his right tibia, the team announced Friday morning.

Hoosier Hysteria

The Pelicans traded for Holiday on draft night in a blockbuster deal with the Philadelphia 76ers that included Nerlens Noel. Holiday has been inconsistent this season, and he has really struggled over the past week. On the year, he's averaging 14.3 points, 7.9 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game.

Brian Roberts will likely get the call as the starting point guard with Holiday out, although this injury should open up more playing time for Tyreke Evans. Austin Rivers should also see an uptick in minutes.

The Holiday injury is the latest in a long line of injuries to top NBA point guards. Eric Bledsoe recently went down with a knee issue, while Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving and Deron Williams have dealt with injuries. Not to mention Rajon Rondo, who's recovering from an ACL tear suffered last season.
