Clippers sign Hedo Turkoglu and Darius Morris, waive Maalik Wayns

The Los Angeles Clippers announced the signing of Hedo Turkoglu, who was waived by the Orlando Magic earlier this season.

Brad Mills-US PRESSWIRE

The Los Angeles Clippers announced on Thursday that they have signed veteran Hedo Turkoglu for the rest of the season. The inking of the former Orlando Magic forward coincided with the re-signing of third-year point guard Darius Morris to his second 10-day contract and the waiving of point guard Maalik Wayns.

Turkoglu hasn't seen game action in nearly a year due to Orlando's emphasis on playing the younger Moe Harkless and Tobias Harris, not to mention Turkoglu's 20-game suspension for violating the NBA's anti-drug program. He last played for the Magic on Feb. 4, 2013.

Clippers coach Doc Rivers told ESPN Los Angeles before the signing that he liked what he saw from Turkoglu in a private workout, and added the 6’10 forward will be a valuable asset as a shooter at either forward spot. Turkoglu is a 38 percent three-point shooter for his career.

Morris, who started the season playing heavy minutes for the Philadelphia 76ers, joined Los Angeles after being waived. He's seen spot minutes since the Clippers are currently playing without point guard Chris Paul.

Wayns only appeared in two regular-season games and missed 33 games earlier this season after tearing his meniscus.
