Kobe Bryant injury: Lakers re-examining left knee fracture in February

Kobe Bryant will miss the rest of January and doesn’t expect his knee to be re-examined by the team until early February.

The Los Angeles Lakers will re-examine Kobe Bryant's fractured left knee in February, reports ESPN's Dave McMenamin. Bryant spoke with reporters Friday prior to the team's game against the Boston Celtics and clarified that the Lakers will not have an update on the progress of his knee after they conclude their seven-game "Grammy" road trip, as previously reported.

This pushes the earliest return for Bryant outside of the initial six-week timetable the team announced after he suffered the injury on Dec. 17. Head coach Mike D’Antoni was hopeful Bryant could return as early as Jan. 28, but a January return has been ruled out.

The Lakers are in the midst of a huge losing streak, dropping six straight games and 12 of their last 13 contests. Injury troubles have once again plagued the team, leaving it with a minimal eight active players Friday night when it faces Boston. Nick Young is also unavailable, serving a one-game suspension for throwing a punch at Goran Dragic.
