Kemba Walker injury: Bobcats guard out 10-14 days with ankle sprain

The Charlotte Bobcats announced point guard Kemba Walker suffered a second-degree ankle sprain.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Charlotte Bobcats have set a timeline for Kemba Walker's return from a second-degree ankle sprain at 10-14 days. An MRI on the point guard's left ankle on Sunday confirmed that a sprain suffered Saturday night in a loss to the Miami Heat was nothing more significant.

Walker had played in all 42 of Charlotte’s games this season while averaging a team-leading 18.7 points, 5.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

The third-year pro out of UConn played 22 minutes in the 104-96 overtime loss to Miami on Saturday, but injured himself when he landed on Heat big man Chris Bosh’s foot.

Now, the Bobcats will move forward with point guard Ramon Sessions stepping into the starting lineup. Sessions has averaged 10.4 points and 3.1 assists in 22.1 minutes per game. Charlotte could add veteran third-string point guard Jannero Pargo to the rotation until Walker returns.

Rufus on Fire: More on the Bobcats

At minimum, the Bobcats will be without Walker for upcoming games against the Raptors, Clippers, Knicks and Bulls. The 10-day minimum would make a Jan. 29 game against the Denver Nuggets the first potential game for Walker to return.
