Nets to wear nickname jerseys on Jan. 10 against Heat

Brooklyn Nets players will have jerseys reading ‘The Truth’ instead of ‘Pierce’ and ‘D-Will’ instead of ‘Williams.’

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Weeks back, leaks hinted that the Brooklyn Nets would wear nickname jerseys in their Jan. 10 matchup against the Miami Heat, and ESPN New York's Mike Mazzeo confirmed on Thursday that the Nets would don their nickname jerseys on that date.

Brooklyn's Andrei Kirilenko will replace his last name with his name written in the Russian alphabet -- we assume AK-47 was not an option. Deron Williams' back will read "D-Will," Paul Pierce's jersey will say "Truth" and Joe Johnson simply went with "JJ."

Miami, which will also participate in the nickname-themed jerseys this year, does not list the Jan. 10 game against Brooklyn as one it will wear the alternates, but SLAM Magazine tweeted that the Heat will indeed go with the look on the same night as the Nets.

For the Heat, Ray Allen's jersey back will read "J. Shuttlesworth," paying homage to the character the guard played in Spike Lee's film He Got Game. "King James" will adorn LeBron James' back, and Norris Cole's jersey will say "Cole Train."
