Dallas Mavericks big man Dirk Nowitzki told Sport1 in an interview that he is likely to extend his contract with the team for "two or three years." The interview was transcribed by Sportando:
Dirk Nowitzki plans to extend with Mavericks for 2-3 seasons
Dallas’ superstar says he plans to extend his contact with the team for two or three more years.

“In the summer I will be free agent and likely extend the contract for two or three years” said Nowitzki. “As long as the body supports me, it is still fun to play basketball. After the new contract I will be 38 or 39 and I will probably stop. For a few years it will work out all right” added the German forward who spoke about his friendship with Mark Cuban. “It is clear that our relationship is amicable. We had so many ups and downs together. The championship was the best part. Mark has always supported me. Even when things were not going well, he has always told me: ‘You are and will remain my franchise player” ended Nowitzki.

Nowitzki has previously expressed his interest to stay with the Mavericks through 2015-16 and told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon back in May that he is willing to take a “significant pay cut” in order to provide the organization financial flexibility.
The 35-year-old German is in his 16th season with the organization, averaging 21.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists this year. The Mavericks are seventh in the Western Conference standings and have amassed a 25-18 record so far.
It’s becoming more and more clear that Nowitzki wants to remain with the organization and that the organization plans to keep him. The next step is figuring out for how much money and for how long.
