The Celtics have spiraled further and further into the pit of lost causes after a surprisingly successful start to the season, and a loss at the buzzer to the equally tank-y Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night in Boston did nothing to help boost confidence that things are going to get much better. Enter Rajon Rondo trade talk.
NBA trade rumors: Danny Ainge admits he’s ‘getting calls’ about Rajon Rondo
The Celtics’ star point guard could be a hot market commodity as the NBA’s trade deadline looms.

Danny Ainge went on Toucher and Rich on Thursday morning in Boston to answer questions about Rondo, among other things, and with the trade deadline looming ahead, discussion naturally progressed that direction. The Celtics’ general manager indicated as the team struggles, deal-seekers are testing the waters of availability in an attempt to steal the All-Star point guard:
Ainge on Rondo: "Yeah [I'm getting calls], but I think everybody's sort of fishing right now. I don't think they're anticipating anything."

Boston was adamant prior to the season that they would not be tanking and that Rondo would be a very valuable piece for them moving forward. Whether that’s as a member of the team or as a trade piece now remains to be seen, but teams are already trying to pry him away, even as he struggles to find his footing after returning from the ACL tear suffered one year ago.
This will be interesting to watch moving forward, but it appears Ainge and the rest of the Celtics’ front office aren’t going to jump at any offer less than their desired price tag.
