Nate Robinson puts on slam dunk show at Staples Center

Nate Robinson has always been a bit of a polarizing player over the course of his career. There’s a reason Robinson has been on six different teams in nine seasons despite his ability to put up points in a hurry. His antics can drive a coach crazy, and they certainly can be grating to opponents.

Robinson followed that up with a pair of put-back dunks as the Lakers appeared to just give up as the game got more and more out of hand:

Robinson’s show garnered quite the reaction on Twitter. A small sampling:

Somebody who wasn’t amused with Robinson’s performance was Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni, who coached the point guard back in the day in New York. D’Antoni basically intimated his players should have been more upset and done more to stop Robinson, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles:

“I coached Nate. That’s Nate,” D’Antoni said. “You just shrug your shoulders. Now, if I’m a player, I would’ve had some thoughts, but since I’m sitting over there, it’s hard to do anything. That’s him.”

That’s Nate, alright. Robinson has always been a high-energy player, and if you give him easy opportunities to show off his stuff, he’ll be more than happy to oblige:

“I was just being aggressive tonight and taking advantage of opportunities,” Robinson said. “I like to entertain the other team’s crowd.”

At this point, watching Robinson dunk all over the place is probably more enjoyable for Lakers fans than actually watching their team.
