Spurs-Timberwolves game rescheduled after Mexico City arena fire

The San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves will play a game on April 8, the NBA announced.

A game between the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves set for Dec. 4 in Mexico City was canceled after an elevator fire filled the arena with smoke, but it has been rescheduled for April 8 at the Target Center, the NBA announced on Monday.

The revamped schedule makes both team’s stretch runs to the season a little more difficult.

The Spurs lose a four-day break between an April 6 game against the Memphis Grizzlies and an April 10 contest against the Dallas Mavericks. The T-Wolves added a back-to-back in what was a four-day break between an April 5 game against the Orlando Magic and an April 9 outing with the Chicago Bulls.

Minnesota and San Antonio have met once already this season despite the cancellation of the Mexico City game. Gregg Popovich’s team won a Dec. 13 outing in San Antonio by a 117-110 score. The Wolves and Spurs will next play one another Jan. 12.
