NBA news roundup: Andrew Bynum trade unlikely, Kings have players-only meeting

It looks like the Cleveland Cavaliers will end up waiving Andrew Bynum on Monday. The team has been trying to trade the center, but those talks do not appear to be going anywhere, via Sean Deveney of The Sporting News. As long as Cleveland waives him before midnight E.T., Bynum will clear waivers before Jan. 10 and the Cavaliers will save $6 million of his $12 million salary this year.

That means that big man Pau Gasol will likely remain a Los Angeles Laker for the next little while. Gasol indeed practiced with his Laker teammates on Monday and flew with them to Dallas afterward, via ESPN's Ramona Shelburne:

Yep, plane updates. Trade season, everybody!

The Sacramento Kings had a players-only meeting on Sunday, with DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas taking leadership roles, as reported by Sean Cunningham of News10:

The Kings have been scoring well, but have the league's second-worst defensive rating, per Basketball-Reference. They've given up 100 points or more in all of their last nine games, and all but two since they inserted Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray into their lineup after their big trade with the Toronto Raptors.

Sacramento chasing Nuggets' Andre Miller

Since it is apparently Kings News Day, Sacramento is aggressively pursuing Denver Nuggets point guard Andre Miller, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski:

Kings have been proactive in talks for exiled Denver guard Andre Miller, sources tell Yahoo. Multiple teams checking with Denver on Miller.

Denver is trying to move Miller in the next couple of days, via Wojnarowski. He had to sit out for the Nuggets against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and the Lakers on Sunday, serving a two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. Miller got in an argument with Denver head coach Brian Shaw on the sidelines during the team's game against the Philadelphia 76ers last week, with the 37-year-old upset about being a healthy scratch.

Apparently the Kings are not concerned about the disgruntled 15-year veteran having similar issues in Sacramento. On the court, Miller would be a nice facilitator for the Kings off the bench, as they are currently playing Jimmer Fredette at backup point guard. The third-year guard out of BYU has proven to be more adept at scoring than running a team in the NBA. Miller surely wouldn't do much to help Sacramento's awful defense, though.

Deron Williams out Monday with sprained ankle

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams will be inactive for the game against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News. Williams sprained his left ankle for the third time this season recently and had an MRI on Monday, missing the team's shootaround.

The Nets recalled point guard Tyshawn Taylor from the D-League's Springfield Armor because of Williams' injury. Taylor, who has been bouncing back and forth between Brooklyn and Springfield, was pulled off of the court in the middle of the Armor's practice on Monday, saying, "What did I do now?" according to Newday's Rod Boone.

Milwaukee Bucks big man Larry Sanders and guard Gary Neal had a loud argument in the locker room after their 116-100 loss in Phoenix on Saturday and Sanders addressed it with the media after Monday's practice. Sanders said that the team had to get past the incident and that, "sometimes, when negative things linger, it can hold a team back," via Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Neal decided not to comment on it at all.

All of the Bucks had individual meetings with head coach Larry Drew before practice on Monday. Both Neal and Sanders described them as positive, according to Andrew Gruman of Fox Sports Wisconsin.

The New Orleans Pelicans have given Pierre Jackson's representatives permission to try to find a trade partner, via Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears. Jackson, drafted No. 42 by New Orleans in June, is leading the D-League in scoring with 29.9 points per game. The 5'11 point guard, who is also averaging 4.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game, would have likely already been called up by an NBA team if the Pelicans didn't hold his rights.
