NBA scores 2014: Brooklyn extends winning streak to three games with home win

Clippers respond to difficult weekend with blowout of the Magic

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Brooklyn Nets' season seemed to be spiraling out of control in San Antonio on New Year's Eve, but since then they've reeled off three straight wins after a 91-86 victory on Monday night against the Hawks.

In the absence of Deron Wiliams (who was out with a sprained ankle), Joe Johnson led the way with 23 points, and Mirza Teletovic put up 16 off the bench. But Brooklyn's defense, which has been much-maligned all season, was the story against Atlanta.

The Hawks shot just 38 percent from the floor, and no player scored more than the 16 points put up by Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap. They also turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 28 points for the Nets.

Timberwolves 126, 76ers 95

The four-game winning streak is over for the recently hot 76ers, and sure came to a crashing end.

Minnesota went into Philadelphia and raced past the Sixers for the 126-95 victory, and this thing was over by halftime. The 'Wolves scored 70 points in the first half and kept the pedal to the metal behind 26 points from Kevin Love and 16 and 14 boards from Nikola Pekovic.

The ‘Wolves hit 16 of their 26 three-pointers and dished out 28 assists, and they outrebounded Philly, 53-40, on top of that. The Sixers also committed 22 turnovers, which led to 30 points for Minnesota.

Clippers 101, Magic 81

A couple of nights after losing Chris Paul and being blown out by the Spurs, the Clippers emphatically showed they will indeed be able to tread water for the time being. Los Angeles returned home for a date with Orlando and promptly made the Magic disappear.

Paul’s replacement Darren Collison led the way for the Clips with 21 points and seven dimes, and Blake Griffin went for 16 points, eight boards and six assists in just 24 minutes in the 101-81 massacre that saw L.A. go up by 35 at one point. Griffin also did this:

The Magic got 44 of their 81 points from Victor Oladipo and Maurice Harkless and shot just 35 percent from the floor; they fell behind by double digits less than five minutes into the game
