Video: Josh Smith misses everything on potential game-winner vs. Knicks

A smooth left-handed jump shot is a thing of beauty. This was not a smooth left-handed jump shot.

Jim O’Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Pistons forward Josh Smith had a chance to win a tight game in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks and failed miserably when he air-balled a long two-pointer that would've given Detroit a one-point lead in the waning seconds of the game on Tuesday night.

Instead, he missed everything -- rim, net and backboard -- and didn’t come within two feet of connecting on the midrange jumper that would’ve given the Pistons a signature road win. The Knicks came away with an 89-85 win on their home floor as they continue to try to turn their season around.

Even though the shot was abysmal, Smith’s night wasn’t all bad.

Despite committing eight turnovers, he led the Pistons with 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and added 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Smith can fill up a stat sheet, but the embarrassing end to the game overshadowed an otherwise strong performance.
