NBA All-Star voting: Stephen Curry passes Chris Paul in West backcourt

The third returns of NBA All-Star ballots included Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry jumping Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant still lead all vote-getters in fan votes for the 2014 NBA All-Star Game, but it's Stephen Curry who made the most noise in the third round of returns. The Golden State Warriors guard earned 677,732 votes, surpassing Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul's 651,073.

Curry and Kobe Bryant, if healthy, would start for the Western Conference at guard as of the third returns. If Paul and Bryant are unable to play because of their respective injuries, it won’t be fourth-place vote-getter Jeremy Lin finding his way into the All-Star Game. Replacements are picked by the NBA commissioner.

Bryant has 844,538 votes, second in the Western Conference only to Thunder forward Kevin Durant, who himself is second in the NBA with 1,054,209 fan votes. In the frontcourt, Durant is followed by Dwight Howard's 509,116 votes, Blake Griffin's 500,964 and Kevin Love's 483,031.

James leads the field with 1,076,063 votes. The Eastern Conference starting frontcourt, as it stands, would also include Indiana Pacers forward Paul George (899,671 votes) and New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony (702,869). Indiana center Roy Hibbert is far back in fourth place with 385,964 votes.

Here’s a bigger-picture look of the top vote-getters across the NBA.
