The Charlotte Hornets and point guard Kemba Walker have agreed to a four-year, $48 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The agreement comes just days before the NBA's early extension deadline on Oct. 31.
Kemba Walker, Hornets agree to 4-year, $48 million extension
Charlotte is locking in its point guard long-term.

The 24-year-old Walker was the No. 9 pick in the 2011 draft and has blossomed into a solid starting point guard for Charlotte. Walker has averaged over 17 points per game each of the last two years and set career-highs in assists (6.1 per game) and rebounds (4.2 per game) last season. Charlotte will hope Walker can become a more efficient scorer moving forward after shooting just 39.3 percent from the field last season.
The agreement for Walker is another positive sign for a Hornets team that is looking to take another jump up the Eastern Conference standings. After reaching the playoffs for only the second time in last nine seasons a year ago, Charlotte added free agent guard Lance Stephenson in the offseason.
The Hornets open the season on Wednesday by hosting the Bucks.
