NBA schedule: Bulls visit Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks

Melo and the Knicks host the Bulls, while an undermanned Thunder team visits Portland.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Spor

The second day of the NBA season is busier than its first, and there are few marquee matchups that put the spotlight on the offseason storylines.

The main course

Bulls vs. Knicks, 8 p.m. ET

How many things to watch are in this one? The revamped Chicago Bulls visit Madison Square Garden with Pau Gasol in tow and Derrick Rose coming off a good looking preseason (and summer in general). Carmelo Anthony resisted the pull to join the title contenders by deciding to re-sign with the Knicks this season, and the New York fans will surely be on his side more than ever for that. Oh, and it's the nation's first look at Derek Fisher's triangle offense.

Unfortunately for Chicago, guard Jimmy Butler won't be available as the Melo stopper. He's out for 2-4 weeks with a thumb injury.

The appetizer

Wizards vs. Heat, 7:30 p.m. ET

Washington's growing up during the playoffs last season should bode well for a team that didn't have much turnover, though losing Trevor Ariza puts the onus on Paul Pierce (does he still hate the Heat?) and second-year pro Otto Porter. Of course, Miami has a first chance to prove-slash-adjust to the post-LeBron era. Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade have very different roles, as does summer signee Luol Deng.

The dessert

Thunder vs. Blazers, 10:30 p.m. ET

Compared to the rest of the league, it was a relatively quiet summer for both the Blazers and Thunder. That, until Kevin Durant's foot injury sidelined him to start the season. Russell Westbrook will have to carry the load for a Thunder squad that has a depth chart that isn't exactly deep -- Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb and four others are banged up. Portland, after making the conference semifinals last season, will hope player improvement has added depth.

And hey, it’s officially the Steven Adams era in OKC. Sorry, Perk.
