While the Thunder still have control of his contract situation, he is seeking a starting job elsewhere instead of being in Russell Westbrook’s shadow, according to Wojnarowski. He’ll have a chance to showcase his skills to the league with Westbrook sidelined due to injury. Oklahoma City can match any contract offer, but it’ll surely be reluctant to pay a second point guard big bucks with Westbrook already there.
Jackson has steadily improved each year, inching his per-game averages up through his three seasons in Oklahoma City. He put up career-numbers last season, averaging 13.1 points, 4.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 33 percent from beyond the arc. He was also key for the Thunder in the past two seasons when Westbrook went down with injuries.
Jackson has been on the Thunder through all three years of his career and is a commodity as a solid player who’s still just 24 years old. Oklahoma City drafted him with the 24th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, and he’s done well to grow as a late first-round prospect out of Boston College.
