Nick Young will be out of action for approximately eight weeks as surgery is required for a torn thumb ligament, reports Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times. That means that Young is unlikely to play in the month of November for the Lakers, who are striving for the playoff bracket in the West against long odds.
Lakers’ Nick Young to miss 8 weeks with torn thumb ligament
L.A.‘s No. 2 gunner is down for at least the first month of the regular season.

Young was expected to play in a unit rounded out by legendary scorer Kobe Bryant and scoring point guard Jeremy Lin. Swaggy P was L.A.'s top scorer last season at 17.9 points per game, and was actually relatively efficient despite his reputation as a gunner. But the Lakers had a massively disappointing season, ranking worst in the Pacific and second worst in the West at year's end.
In a cosmic metaphorical twist, Young apparently injured his thumb trying to steal the ball from Bryant.
Story has it that Nick Young was playing defense on Kobe, tried to steal the ball, resulted in the injury.
