The Indiana Pacers bought in to Frank Vogel and announced Wednesday they have signed their head coach to a multi-year contract extension. The exact length of the contract wasn't released.

“We’re very happy to extend Frank’s contract,” said Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird. “I believe he has done a great job and I look forward to continuing our relationship and working together to achieve all of our goals.”

Months ago, it appeared Vogel would be coaching for his job -- at least that was the rumor. Bird even openly discussed Vogel’s positive coaching style in the Indy Star by wondering why Indiana didn’t “take the fight to” opponents.

The Pacers tumbled after a fast start to the year, going 16-14 after the All-Star break; they were seemingly wilting at the pressure put on themselves to win the top seed in the Eastern Conference. To open the playoffs, Indiana was taken to seven games against a speedy Atlanta Hawks team, and following that, got down early in a six-game second-round matchup against the Washington Wizards.

Eventually, the Pacers would recover enough to reach the conference finals before losing to the Miami Heat in six games.

This season, Vogel's job doesn't get any easier. The Pacers will be without All-Star Paul George because of his broken leg and lost starting guard Lance Stephenson in free agency.
