Kevin Garnett is still going strong for the Brooklyn Nets, but when the 38-year-old's career is over he wants to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears.
Kevin Garnett wants to buy the Timberwolves when he retires
The NBA’s aging forward knows what he wants to do following his playing career.

Garnett told Spears he’d love the opportunity to put together an ownership group that would buy the T-Wolves, and there’s a chance a bit of salary saving over his career could make Garnett a legitimate candidate to lead such a group.
Minnesota’s current owner, Glen Taylor, told the Associated Press in 2012 that he was open to bringing on a minority owner who would learn how to run the team before eventually buying Taylor’s majority share out. The problem then was that Taylor was having trouble finding suitable candidates. He preferred the Timberwolves were bought by a native Minnesotan and seemed determined to keep the franchise in the state.
Eventually, Taylor pulled the team off the market. He’s continued to invest in it, and according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal, is putting $44 million into a $97 million renovation project for the Timberwolves’ home, the Target Center.
Garnett & Pierce Trade
With Garnett’s imprint already on the franchise as a player, he would presumably be a fine candidate as the T-Wolves’ owner. He told Spears that he still has important ties to the franchise and a relationship with his former coach, Flip Saunders, who is again the coach and also the president of basketball operations.
The question is whether Garnett would be able to buy the team.
Having made $315 million in NBA contracts during his career and countless more millions on endorsement deals, it's possible he could have enough to invest. But with the Los Angeles Clippers selling for $1 billion and new television money being pumped into the league, it might take more than the $430 million the Timberwolves were recently valued at by Forbes Magazine.
Spears reports Garnett is reenergized this season and that’s shown in his play for the Nets. So with that going for him, Garnett has a little bit more time to think about his big future plans.
