Giannis Antetokounmpo is more than a European highlight reel

The second-year player is more than a euro-step mix tape, he’s making a big difference for the Bucks.

The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the surprise stories of the young NBA season. They've jumped out to a 10-8 record, currently good enough for the fifth-best record in the East. They're playing good defense, winning tough games, and have a lot of young talent. And Giannis Antetokounmpo is a big help in all of it.

It’s fun to watch Antetokounmpo play basketball. He does things that seem impossible with the ball. But it’s not just his highlights that are helping the Bucks. He’s made a big jump in his second year in the league.

The 6’11 Antetokounmpo is averaging 11.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game and his PER is 15.78. He’s doing that in 27.8 minutes per game. As a rookie, he averaged 24.8 minutes and put up only 6.8 points and grabbed 4.4 rebound per game. Perhaps most impressive in his sophomore campaign, however, is that he’s shooting 48.8 percent from the field.

And although we wanted to point out how much he’s helping the Bucks with more than plays that bend your mind, Antetokounmpo’s highlight reel can’t be ignored. Here are some of the best Giannis Vines from Brew Hoop.

On the defensive end, his length makes a big difference. He can nab rebounds that seem out of reach and he interferes with passing lanes thanks to his wingspan.

Plus, he can make blocks:

The Euro-step

Against the Pistons on Friday night, Antetokounmpo picked up his dribble at the three-point line and still managed to get an easy layup.

He followed it up with a similar, yet somehow more mind-bending, move against the Rockets.

Scary slams

While the Euro-step is pretty, Antetokounmpo also knows how to throw down. He’s gotten very good at snagging alley-oops.

Or, he mixes a dunk with the Euro-step.

Highlights or no highlights, the Bucks are fun to watch. A lot of that has to do with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
