The Brooklyn Nets have finally sent away disgruntled reserve forward Andrei Kirilenko, trading him to the Philadelphia 76ers along with a 2020 second-round pick and the right to swap 2018 first-round picks, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. The 76ers will send back Brandon Davies to complete the trade, while Brooklyn is expected to throw in one more minor player.

The former Nets forward could then be waived, freeing him to join a contender.

Kirilenko signed a controversial deal with the Nets in the summer of the 2013. After turning down a player option with the Minnesota Timberwolves for one-year and $10.2 million, Kirilenko signed with Brooklyn for two years and just over $6 million total. Expectations were sky-high for a Nets team that also added Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in the offseason.
It never worked out for Brooklyn. Garnett regressed at 37, Brook Lopez suffered a season-ending injury and Kirilenko didn’t have the two-way impact most expected. Brooklyn still won a playoff series last season, but after coach Jason Kidd departed this summer, it quickly became evident Kirileko wasn’t in Lionel Hollins’ plans.
Kirilenko has barely played this season, attempting only five field goal attempts and making none of them. If the 33-year-old has anything left in the tank, he could provide a solid veteran presence for an extremely young Sixers team for the rest of the season.
