LeBron James wants to wear ‘I can’t breathe’ shirt for Cavaliers’ game in Brooklyn

James hinted that he might wear a shirt to pay tribute to the deceased Eric Garner when the Cavaliers take on the Nets in Brooklyn, just miles from where Garner’s death happened. He was inspired by Derrick Rose wearing one on Saturday.

LeBron James was impressed that Derrick Rose wore an "I can't breathe" shirt during warmups for the Bulls game against the Warriors Saturday night to pay tribute to the late Eric Garner. He was so impressed that he may wear one as well when the Cavaliers play against the Nets in Brooklyn on Monday night.

“It was spectacular. I loved it. I’m looking for one,” James said, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Garner was apprehended by police in July in Staten Island, during which he was filmed repeating “I can’t breathe.” He later died at a hospital. The police officer will not face criminal charges following a recent grand jury decision in New York. Protesters around the country have expressed their frustration with that decision.

Rose wore the shirt in Chicago, but the fact that James may don the shirt on Monday night is especially significant given James’ stature and the game being played in nearby Brooklyn.

James isn't one to shy away from social issues. When he was with the Heat, he and his teammates posed in hoodies to show support for Trayvon Martin.

He also posted this photo on Instagram following the decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson for shooting Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
