NBA trade rumors: Knicks trying to rekindle Iman Shumpert for Kenneth Faried trade

The Nuggets could be asking for a draft pick in return, as well.

USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks have once again reached out to the Denver Nuggets in an attempt to revisit a trade proposal from early November involving Iman Shumpert and Kenneth Faried, Marc Stein of ESPN reported Tuesday afternoon.

The original discussions took place only a few games into the season with both teams struggling, but the Nuggets were not buying what the Knicks were selling at the time. New York has had injury problems and depth issues in its frontcourt all season long, and Faried could certainly help in that capacity should the Knicks be able to acquire the rebound-gobbling power forward.

Faried, who has been drawing league-wide interest since the start of the season, is averaging 10.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in almost 25 minutes a night while shooting nearly 55 percent from the floor.

But whether or not Denver feels Shumpert — a good defender and decent spot-up shooter — is a valuable enough asset to justify parting ways with Faried remains to be seen. The Nuggets were reportedly interested in receiving a draft pick along with the Knicks shooting guard in return, but we have not yet heard if that remains the case now.

The 23-year-old Shumpert is averaging 7.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 27 minutes per game for the Knicks this season.
