Losing Gasol is a major blow for the Grizzlies, who are looking for their seventh win in eight games against the Eastern Conference. They're two games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference and have gained ground significantly since the reigning Defensive Player of the Year missed time earlier this season.
When Gasol first went down for two months with a sprained MCL earlier this season, it put Memphis into the tailspin that’s taken weeks to get out of. His return in the middle of January helped spark the team’s 13-3 turnaround during the month, but momentum has stalled since then and another knee injury could be devastating to the team’s playoff hopes.
Gasol played 23 minutes on Wednesday before leaving, recording four points and five rebounds. He’s averaged 13.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 28 games this season.
