Winter Olympics 2014 medal count: Standings after the Dutch dominate speed skating ice
The Netherlands and the United States are tied atop the total medal count, while the Germans own the most gold.

It’s been a busy Tuesday on the medal stand in Sochi, where the rich just continued to get richer. The Netherlands swept the 10000m speed skating event to earn three medals and tie the United States atop the total standings, while the Americans took home gold and bronze in men’s ski halfpipe and men’s snowboard cross, respectively. Each country has 20 medals — six gold apiece — while Russia remains in third with 19 after grabbing silver in men’s snowboard cross.
Norway cleaned up once again in the cross-country events, taking gold and silver in the Nordic combined and gold in the mass start 15km biathlon to push it up to 18 total medals and seven gold. The Canadians and Germans also added to their medal counts.
Germany leads the Olympics with eight gold medals, but it was all bronze on Tuesday, with Viktoria Rebensburg and Fabian Riessle each taking third in the giant slalom and Nordic combined, respectively, to push their country’s count to 15 total. Canada took silver in both the women’s 3000m short track and men’s ski halfpipe.
Elsewhere, the French had a great day, grabbing gold, silver and bronze in men’s snowboard cross, the biathlon and the men’s ski halfpipe. They’ve got a total of nine medals now, three of which are gold.
