NBA trade rumors: Celtics targeting Gordon Hayward

Utah is concerned with the return on the deal, while Boston isn’t interested in parting ways with a first-round pick.

The active Boston Celtics are reportedly targeting Utah Jazz guard Gordon Hayward in a potential trade, A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com is reporting.

A trade that puts Hayward in Celtics green would reunite the player with his former college coach Brad Stevens, but any deal would be very difficult to pull off in the end. The Jazz are reportedly not interested in taking Rajon Rondo in return because of concerns that he'd refuse to re-sign in Utah when his contract expires in 2015, and the team isn't interested in Jeff Green, either, according to Blakely's report.

Blakely also said the Jazz are looking to get back one of the first-round picks the Celtics have stockpiled, but that Boston is “very reluctant” to part ways with any of its first-rounders in a possible deal. In fact, they’re looking to add assets, not trade them.

Remember, Hayward is a restricted free agent this summer, and he and the Jazz failed to come to terms on a contract extension prior to the start of the season. Utah can still retain him at the end of the season, but it might come at a very high cost on the open market.
