NBA trade rumors: Grizzlies among teams chasing Harrison Barnes, according to report

The Grizzlies are among a number of teams that have serious interest in Harrison Barnes.

The Memphis Grizzlies are among a number of teams that are pursuing the Golden State Warriors' Harrison Barnes, according to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports.

Many NBA teams have called about Barnes in the past week, but the Warriors are reluctant to part with him unless they get a big name as part of the package in return. Golden State could use a back-up big man to spell Andrew Bogut, as Marreese Speights has been unable to carve out a consistent role, while Jermaine O'Neal has missed considerable time due to injury this season.

Barnes would bring the Grizzlies some much-needed scoring from the perimeter and could serve as a solid, young piece to build around. The 21-year-old Barnes is averaging 29.2 minutes and 10.4 points per game, while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor and 40.5 percent from the three-point line. Over his last four games, moreover, Barnes has scored 14.8 points a night on 51.1 percent shooting to go along with an 8-for-12 line on threes. He could really help a Memphis offense that is largely devoid of effective jump shooters, even after January's trade for Courtney Lee.

Whether the Warriors are willing to part with Barnes and who Memphis could actually include in the deal to tempt Golden State remains to be seen. The only notable reserve big men on the Grizzlies' roster are Kosta Koufos and Ed Davis, but the Warriors would surely have to receive more in return before trading Barnes away.

As it stands, the Grizzlies sit just one game behind the Warriors, making any trade that would potentially improve Memphis that much more unappealing from Golden State’s perspective.
