NBA trade rumors: Rockets like Rajon Rondo, but Celtics have high asking price

The Houston Rockets apparently want Rajon Rondo, but it inconceivable how they could convince the Boston Celtics to give him up.

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

For a long while now, it's become clear that Rajon Rondo isn't antsy to get out of Boston, nor are the Celtics putting forth too much effort to trade him. But between two close general managers, things will be discussed, and that's apparently what Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and his Houston Rockets counterpart, Daryl Morey, have been doing.

Morey has “absolute interest” in Rondo, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein, but any deal seems unfathomable at this point. The Celtics hold all the cards here and won’t be interested in talking trades unless a proposal blows their socks off.

Stein reports that Houston would need to first include swingman Chandler Parsons in a Rondo trade, and he's an untouchable with Dwight Howard and James Harden. On top of it, it's likely Boston would need first round picks or other capable players thrown into a trade to sweeten the deal. After all, the Celtics earned a crop of first-rounders this past summer by dealing the aging Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, then allowing coach Doc Rivers out of his contract so he could coach the Los Angeles Clippers.

Boston is in no hurry to push for a Rondo trade and has him under contract through next season. So until a deal comes across the table that’s hard to pass up, expect Rondo to remain in Beantown.
