NBA trade rumors: Beno Udrih drawing interest from Wizards, Nuggets

Young playoff teams covet veteran leaders who can run an offense, hence the battle for Udrih.

The New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets are leaning toward making a deal that would involve a swap of guard Beno Udrih for forward Jordan Hamilton, according to ESPN NBA Insider Marc Stein.

The Nuggets covet Udrih to fill the void left by disgruntled veteran point guard Andre Miller, who reportedly is unwilling to reconcile with Denver and wants to move on after falling out of favor with the coaching staff. The 31-year-old Udrih is still a capable rotational player who can eat up minutes behind Ty Lawson and provide the kind of veteran presence young teams need during the postseason.

The Knicks had designs on acquiring Kenneth Faried, but as that deal is looking less likely, they may settle for Hamilton.

But the Washington Wizards are lurking, too. They like Udrih for the same reasons the Nuggets do and are actively campaigning to land him over Denver. When John Wall sits, they can use the stability of a floor general who knows how to take care of the ball and pilot the offense.
