Steve Blake traded to Warriors for Kent Bazemore, MarShon Brooks

A Lakers’ fan favorite is headed to the Bay Area, while Los Angeles continues to build for the future.

USA TODAY Sports

With the move, the Warriors gain a veteran leader at the all-important point guard position with the ability to run an offense. Blake can provide veteran leadership to a young team looking to take major steps forward in the Western Conference playoffs this season.

The Lakers' addition of Kendall Marshall and Jordan Farmar coupled with their youth and strong play made Blake expendable. In return, Los Angeles receives two young players who could eventually materialize into rotation players if they pan out. If not, Brooks' deal is expiring, while the Lakers could give Bazemore a qualifying offer as a restricted free agent.

Blake has played well for the Lakers this season, averaging 9.5 points and a career-high 7.6 assists per game in 27 starts. He’s been hampered by injuries over the past two seasons, but when healthy, he’s a capable shooter from long range with a 39 percent career mark from beyond the arc.
