The Rockets approached the trade deadline reportedly seeking help on the perimeter, and the 23-year-old Hamilton certainly brings that. He is averaging 6.8 points per game, and while struggling from the field at 39 percent, he could better flourish in Kevin McHale's offense by playing off Dwight Howard, James Harden and Chandler Parsons.
Hamilton joins the Rockets in the final year of his rookie contract.
The trade gives Denver a backup point guard. The Nuggets were rumored to have interest in the New York Knicks' Beno Udrih, but instead they get a younger player and better scorer. With Ty Lawson temporarily out, backup Nate Robinson sidelined for the year with an ACL injury and Andre Miller traded to the Wizards on Thursday, Brooks will have a chance to play immediately. He was stuck behind Patrick Beverley and Jeremy Lin in Houston.
