Attempting to get under the luxury tax threshold, the Los Angeles Clippers shipped forward Byron Mullens and a second-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers and will get one of the Sixers' many second-round picks in return, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times. The pick coming from Philadelphia is conditional, reports ESPN Los Angeles' Arah Markazi.

The Los Angeles Clippers shipped big man Byron Mullens and are nearly under the luxury tax.

Mullens is making less than $1 million this year but wiping his salary from the books helps Los Angeles near the $71.7 luxury tax line. The Clippers also traded forward Antawn Jamison’s minimum contract to the Hawks just before the deadline, and according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, are about $262,000 over the tax threshold assuming no player will be coming back from Atlanta.
Either way, Los Angeles saves money.

Mullens, who signed a two-year deal with the Clippers this summer, has struggled to meet expectations as a floor-stretching forward. He's played in 27 of the Clippers' 56 games this year and only 6.7 minutes per game at that. He was shooting 41 percent overall -- 33 percent from three-point range -- and could likely fill the void left by Spencer Hawes, who Philadelphia traded to to Cleveland on Thursday.
