NBA trade deadline: Evan Turner traded to Indiana, Danny Granger to Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers have traded Evan Turner. His surprise destination is Indiana, with Danny Granger heading to Philly.

The Indiana Pacers have traded forward Danny Granger to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen, as reported by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. The 76ers will also receive a future second-round pick, according to Grantland's Zach Lowe.

Granger, who will earn $14 million this season and will be a free agent this summer, has spent his entire eight-and-a-half-year career in Indiana. Turner, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 draft, has been the subject of speculation all season long.

Granger, once the Pacers’ franchise player, averaged 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as their sixth man this season. Turner averaged a career-high 17.4 points, plus 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season in Philly. Indiana had insisted all year that it was not looking to deal Granger, but it appears that the prospect of adding a talent like Turner was too much for the team to turn down.

Allen should see some minutes as a backup big with the Pacers, and he’s averaging 5.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season.

This deal should make Indiana better immediately. The Sixers’ motivation for the deal is less clear, as there is no word yet whether or not the Pacers will be sending picks to Philadelphia along with Granger.
